Does the army have a program to help pay off existing student loans?

I am new to the Army. I have racked up two degrees and plenty of student loans. I have 48000 in federal loans which the Army is going to pay for. but I have 4000 in personal loans that the Army will not take care of. I want to go back to school for a Masters, but I cannot get my transcript to prove that I already have the credits to prove that I have the necessary credits. I have been to ACS, the education center and the VA. none of them have a program. is there a loan or a program that the Army has that I can take advantage of?

The only one I know of is if you are a medical doctor and willing to work in a rural community for 3 years.

You could take advantage of your paycheck and use a portion of it to pay off your debt.

I think 48,000 is enough help. Personal loans should be paid for by the borrower not the tax payer.

I dont think they will payoff the personal loans. if you are an officer your chances of getting your education taken care of are a lot less then as an enlisted. there is a program for it, I am sorry I cant give you more information then that, I had some friends working on there masters, I know they went to the ed center, and got signed up with one of the colleges, the you can get the ed center to pay for it that way. I did the same thing but not for my masters I was just taking classes and they paid for everything. you should really sit down and talk with someone at the ed center they will be able to help you more. you might also look into e army u

Contact the school, or credit debt agency, work out a plan with them. I owe more than that in school loans, that's not that much. It will probably come out to $150 a month if that.

Once you show you are paying it back, you shouldn't have a problem getting your transcripts. It sounds like you should spend your energy on working with the school on the debt, not with the military.

Why cannot you get a transcript? Write a letter to the school, along with a check for transcript fees. The Army has lots of tuitiion reimbursement. You are an officer I assume? If you're not you screwed the pooch bigtime.
PS: Just reread your post. The Army is paying of 48K of loans and you are worried about $4,000! Pay it off yourself! They repay Federal student loans, not personal loans which could have been used for anything!

What do you mean you cannot get your transcripts ?

You just sent a telegram to the university you went to and request they send your transcripts to where ever you want them sent.

The Army will pay for class's taken if you are active duty.

But if you are talking about going to school full time, then beside the degree completion program, I know of no other program that will allow you to go to school full time to receive a masters degree.

maybe the g.i. bill but i doubt it. you are lucky that they are taking care of the federal loans for you.

the CLRP only covers Federal Loans. be thankful that you only have $4000 in Private loans.. which, BTW, can be deferred for the first 4 years of your enlistment.

The GI bill can be used for Advanced Degrees. Also Tuition Assistance.

Those are the only programs the Military has that you can use.
