For a student loan they can only take your state tax refund? I'm in South Carolina?
This is the first year that it has been in default. I was told by two reps. that they do see and offset for the state but not the federal. Can i trust what they are telling me? I'm not working right now and i could really use the money to pay most of the loan and other bills..
No, If you have an offset for a student loan the odds are it is for both your federal and state. Call this number to see 1 800 304-3107 if your federal refund will be offset.

No, I believe they would take you federal and you keep the state.

I live in SC, my lender is in MI. My federal taxes were offset. They took it all dammit! But my lender said that they do not report offset requests to state because it is too small of an amount.
Hope that helps.
